Tours

You'd be surprised what you might learn.

I've lived here all my life and never knew these things happened right here in my neighborhood.Old Arlington, Inc. is proud to offer Historic Tours of Arlington, including a version that goes to Ft. Caroline. Basically, we need 32 persons to have a tour. The local tour price is $20 each, and the tour lasts for one and a half hours, two hours total from start to finish. Regardless, you should read the full tour information.

Old Arlington, Inc. is now embarking on Historic Home Tour plans for a future début date. Persons interested in being involved should contact us now. You can also sign up to receive news as the tour plans develop (see left side of page). We are now getting some significant interest in our Historic Home Tour, but we do not currently have a date set. Our initial plans were to have a Historic Home Tour in May 2009 but due to initial lack of response we have moved that date forward to an undetermined date. We look forward to having this event in the not too distant future. Help spread the word and gather interest as it would be a fun thing to do and it is all good for our community.

Past Tours

Old Arlington, Inc. has conducted tours since 2004. The response has been phenomenal. Everyone is surprised at how much history we have in the Old Arlington area. Gather a group together or sign up to included as an individual. Either way, you are going to have fun.

Even if you looked at every photo and read every page on our website, you still would learn many new things about our area on the tour, plus seeing it is much more exciting than just reading about it. You can learn it all for a mere $20; a bargain price in tours. Have you visited the Kingsley Plantation or visited SaintXAugustine? You can't possibly have the full story if you don't know what happened right here in Old Arlington.

  • Did you know:
    • About the silent film era in Jacksonville?
      • ... that we have the only silent film studio complex left standing, right here in Old Arlington?
      • ... that we are turning the studio into Jacksonville's newest museum?
    • About Old Arlington's connection to the Kingsley story?
      • ... that Ann Kingsley, wife of Zepaniah Kingsley of Kingsley Plantation fame, was one of the wealthiest ladies in Duval County at one time, and listed 10th wealthiest person in Duval County?
      • ... that she had her own plantations and her own slaves?
      • ... that her daughters also were wealthy ladies in Duval County?
      • ... that Mrs. Kingsley started out as a slave from Senegal Africa?
      • ... that Mrs. Kingsley did not remain in the Dominican Republic where her husband moved the family?
      • ... that she is buried right here in our neighborhood?

That is just a hint, one small portion of what you will experience and learn. Come join us for some interesting history.
